MAERSK Line has unveiled plans to hike ocean freight rates from Asia to a destinations in Caribbean and Latin America from December 15. From the Far East to Mexico, Central America and the west coast of South America, rates will be increased by US$600 per TEU and $1,200 per FEU and 45-foot high-cube.
PORTS in South China’s Hainan province posted a 14.3 per cent growth in throughput to 91.57 million tonnes in the first 10 months. The provincial ports’ foreign trade cargo volume increase 11.5 per cent to 16.99 million tonnes while container throughput grew 31.5 per cent to 886,000 TEU.
The State Council’s Legislative Affairs Office is asking government ministries for advice on a draft safety regulation to govern the use of school buses. The request comes after 19 preschoolers and two adults died on an overcrowded bus on Nov 16. The other 43 people on the bus, which only had nine seats, were injured.
AIR CHINA posted a 4.1 per cent cargo decline in October year on year and a 6.7 per cent drop from September to 96,215 tonnes, but in the first nine months of the year, its throughput was up 1.9 per cent to 953,229 tons.
